November 23rd, 2020

I am posting now to this blog for the first time in more than two years.  When last I wrote, I was still employed by Berkeley College and complaining about badly timed layoffs.  I left my employ with the college in October of 2018, very shortly afterward, my wife staged an all-hands intervention meant to confront my alcoholism.

I was out of work for a little less than a year.   I spent some good time with the children, being around to get them from buses, etc., but never, ever really worked on the other thing.

I began working for the US Postal Service in August of 2019.  Strange the way that lined up.  Going into a holiday season, got through it no problem, made a trip to Africa to celebrate the new marriage of my stepfather Charlie and his new Senegalese bride Yaye.  The coincidence of my having lived in a neighboring country for four years twenty years earlier.   I share a tribal language, Wolof, with this woman from day one when Charlie and she literally had to communicate using Google translate for months before being able to do anything akin to simply speaking to each other.

Two week trip to Africa and Paris, Charlie took us all.  Six planes up, six down.  We are his closest family, and he has the money, so all good.  Then we got back, David Perry got sick with kidney cancer, the pandemic hit, my regular carrier I was subbing for left for a four month maternity leave, David died.  Work was crazy during early COVID times.  Kim finally came back in early September and I began a regular progrma of getting myself into other offices to see what they were like.  Peekskill, Mohegan Lake, and Garrison are the three where I found myself working.  Peekskill huge (35 routes) and well organized.  Mohegan big and maybe not as well run, then Garrison tiny and understaffed.

5/14/18

5/14/18

Another new feeling day.  Determined to live clean for an extended period of time.  It will help every single aspect of my life.   Very exciting.  Nice to have such nice friends in the park to play with at lunch.  Adult recess.

Tonight is my chance to complete the outline of the Gambia project.

Gambia project outline in Google Docs.  Also Laundry, harsh clothing culling, and remember to bring Jeff his Kompleeto!

Taxes.

5/9/2018

A new day, and a new perspective.

Went to a meeting, dug a little too deep on the first try.

Deslyn finally at her arm surgery today.  Tried to call to wish her luck, no luck, she never answers her phone.  Just texted, we will see

8 club passing with Brenden.  It really clicked last night.  That guy is amazing.   We are so lucky to have him, even sometimes.  It is all in the self throws.  If they are not high/relaxed enough, the entire thing feels ruched and awkward.

Haliuna inspires me.   New Cambodian guy inspires me.   Billy Joel inspires me.

Day 2

Day 2.

Juggled.  Realized 5j 15c One-count feast is possible.   Oho.

No choir tonight, looking forward to that sandwich.

Bad fuckups by others at work, and some kind interventions by fate on my/our behalf.

INTL grad fell in my lap coming into the office this morning.  Literally in the same elevator.   Dana Kaumenova, looking for career guidance and help, she will sit on our career panel.   Robin Nilsson also available and interested to chip in.   Plus three professor and Milagros from career services, we are starting to look like a real group.

Honestly, though, what were they thinking letting people go with that timing.   The main driver of intercultural affairs, ousted less than a week before her biggest week of programming for the year.  Not cool.

Blaze was great last night.   Kids had fun.

8 November 2017

The time has come, the walrus said, to talk of many things
Of shoes and ships, of sealing wax, of cabbages and kings
Of Why the Sea is boiling hot, and whether pigs have wings

The time HAS come.

Day one.

Doing the exercise thing with Penda.   It is really interesting how a tiny little bit of extra exercise can change things.   Today is pushups.   15 of them.  This picture is still pretty accurate, unfortunately.
